Welcome to the Australian Chapter. It is now well established and steaming ahead. The Chapter’s members collect perfume bottles of all types and ages, from minis to factice, commercials, Czechoslovakian, art glass, art nouveau, solids, powder boxes, compacts, spray cards and other perfume paraphernalia.
The Australian Chapter had its beginnings in 2014 when a steering committee was set up to determine its future. However, the Chapter was formally launched at its inaugural meeting on 19 September, 2015 at the home of Marie Cashman in Sydney. It was attended by 14 members and 12 guests. Members travelled from as far away as New Zealand, Western Australia and Victoria.
The Chapter now holds an annual meeting and convention at a private home where members are encouraged to display items from their collections and to participate in “show and tell” discussions, competitions, raffles and trading tables. Although most annual meetings have been held in the State of New South Wales, one has been successfully held in Victoria and there are plans to travel to other States in the future.
The Chapter issues a quarterly e-newsletter with interesting articles about members’ collections or unusual finds, as well as historical information on perfume and perfume bottles. It also encourages anyone who is interested in submitting articles for future inclusion.
The Chapter also has a well-established Facebook page which enjoys posts from members in Australia and many overseas countries. This has become a forum for being able to enjoy other members’ collections and advice without the tyranny of distance from which many valuable friendships have been formed. It is a closed group. However, other likeminded people can be invited to join, should they wish to. The Committee always welcomes enquiries regarding future membership As of June 2020, the Chapter had 252 Facebook members, as well as a number of non-Facebook members, including junior members.
The Chapter’s website also attracts regular viewers, looking at its gallery of perfume bottles as well as its list of antique fairs held throughout the country and also previous editions of its e-newsletters.
