The buzzwords echoing throughout the IPBA’s 38th Annual Convention in Chicago were undoubtedly “excitement” and “energy”.
Reuniting With Friends
The excitement of members reuniting in Chicago created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the days of convention.

Taking the opportunity to make new friends.
Being with people sharing the same passion for these works of art in miniature made every moment memorable.

Especially with our members from Europe.

Tours – Convention kicked off with two amazing tours!

Fragrance Discovery – a Luxury Perfume Walking Tour, led by Associate Convention Chair and perfumer, Jen Siems.
Halim Time & Glass Museum – a guided tour led by member Paul Van Halteren.
Gem cameo vase by Thomas Webb and Son, probably designed by George Woodall and carved by the Woodall Team.

Perfume Passage Soiree – Spending time wandering around perfume Passage is magical.

There were so many new exhibits and acquisitions, it was a fantastic experience.
A special display of the items from the “Making Scents: the Art and Passion of Fragrance” exhibit created by the North Carolina Arboretum.

Dinner with friends in the Carousel building is always a treat.

This year we added a few audience participation games including “Heads or Tails” led by Rusty.

As well as a carousel “horse race”.

Afterwards everyone had a grand time riding the carousel.

Perfume Bottles & Vintage Vanity Show & Sale

The energy came from the thousands of items for sale in the Showroom. 18 vendors filled their showcases and tables, enticing us with perfume bottles, compacts, atomizers, powder boxes, lipsticks, purses, mirrors and so much more.

Buyers swarmed to find a matching color or a smaller size of something already owned, or finding an item you have been searching years for, making our hearts go pitter-patter, and then our wallets magically open, and the item is ours!

The Perfume Bottle Design Competition featured many creative designs. The winner was “Athena’s Ember” by Oksana Puzhalova.

Collector’s Market is where bargains can be found.
Attendees and members of the public swarmed the tables.

All were looking for that special buy.
Educational presentations were well attended and informative as usual!

“Karl Lagerfeld” with Terri Chappell Boyd.
“DeVilbiss: the Fun, the Curious, the Cool, and the Little Known” with Toby Mack.

“Compacts of the High Deco Era” with Howard Melton.
“Behind the Boudoir Door: Lingerie and Beauty Through the Decades” with Bette Sherman.

Collectors Sessions educated us on specialty topics

A two-part Minis session included Verna Kocken with “Czech Minis” and Austin Leung with “Micro Minis”.

“Palais Royal” with Monica Magnani.

“From Fragrance Object to Collector Icon. A Collector’s Guide to Estee Lauder Solid Perfume Compacts” with Shelley Bechtold.
“Accessories from the Century of Progress” with Andra Behrendt.

Awards were presented at the Annual Meeting

Phyllis Dohanian received the Honors of the Association
Victor Weinstein received a Shining Star

Convention closed with Treasures Found

A panel of experts and audience participation explored and identified a variety of items submitted by attendees.
Many thanks for a great convention

Go to our Convention Chairs, the hardworking Executive Board, and the many volunteers who made this all possible!
