COLLECTOR’S SESSIONS: Thursday 1:45 and 2:45

Six informal learning and sharing sessions on various perfume related topics. Our Vanity Table Talks have been renamed “Collector’s Sessions”. This year the topics will include:

Silver Hallmarks: Facilitated by Joyce Geeser and Susan Arthur

What are they? How do I find them? How do I find out what they mean? You are welcome to bring one item that has you baffled and together we will delve into the possibilites!

Guerlain: Facilitated by Jin Liu

In-depth study of various Guerlain bottles, such as this Baccarat bottle for “Guerlilas” and “Guerlarose”.

Opera Bottles: Facilitated by Mary Robertson

Over 1,200 perfumes have been named after operas, opera singers, opera composers, opera houses, operettas, musicals and misc. arias. Mary’s extensive research led to her recently published book, “The Marriage of Perfume and the Lyric Stage: The Essence of Opera”.

Dance Cards: Facilitated by Federico Santi

Artistically elaborate, definitely functional, and an impressive souvenir, dance cards were an accessory at formal balls as early as the 18th century.

The Compacts of Société Montral, Paris: Facilitated by Howard Melton and Anne de Thoisy-Dallem.

Although Montral only existed for three years, the company produced an astounding array of compacts. They incorporate Art Deco design concepts and distinctively reflect the societal change and excitement of post-WWI Europe.

Unusual Materials: Facilitated by Monica Magnani

Perfume bottles are not just made from glass or plastic. Silver, gold, semi-precious gemstones, ivory, gourds, nuts, bone, and porcelain are among the various materials used.

RECEPTION AND GRAND OPENING OF THE PERFUME BOTTLES & VINTAGE VANITY SHOW & SALE: Thursday 4:30 PM

IPBA’s Vice President, Dawn Fleming will be entertaining us at the piano during the Grand Opening Reception.

Let’s adorn ourselves in a special outfit, be it contemporary cocktail attire, gowns in the fashionable Victorian, Edwardian or Gatsby style, an ensemble for a yachting adventure, a uniform for polo/tennis/golf, or a party frock.

The show will run for several hours each day throughout the convention.

We’re putting extra effort this year into expanding the number of vendors in the showroom. If you are interested in being a showroom vendor, please contact Andra Behrendt, Show Chair, at: [email protected].
