The Fabulous Flamingos of Florida!
The Flamingos are a diverse group of collectors of all things related to perfume bottles and vanity items. The Chapter’s area is officially the state of Florida, but we are privileged to have IPBA members join us from all geographic areas.
Begun in 1994, the Gatherings are now held three times a year – August/September, November and February. Always fun, we have Show & Tell, updates on the Convention and what’s happening with the IPBA. When possible, we try to add a short presentation or two.
There is always time to catch up with one another AND to have impromptu fashion shows of flamingo attire and accessories.
29 years of flocking! The Florida Regional Chapter began with Dick Miller and Lenore Worth Hiers putting together our first gathering in 1994. The official 25th year celebration was held on 11/10/19 where a PowerPoint showing a quarter of a century of photos of many events, presentations, show and tell items, group photos and open houses were presented.
Everyone is invited to join their fellow perfume pals at one of our Gatherings of the Flock! It is a grand time spent with those who really and truly understand the passion of beautiful perfume bottles and vanity items.

Feathery Flamingo Friends

The August 27th, 2023 gathering of the Flamingo chapter imitated the title in so many ways!
Feathers were the theme for Show & Tell. We had feathery birds on perfume bottles, perfume solids, perfume lamps, compacts, skirt lifters and dance cards. Also featured was the feathering techniques of the ancient Phoenicians.
Flamingos! We wore flamingo earrings, had flamingo birds over our shoulders and watched a video clip of flamingos being … well their naturally flamboyant selves.
Fourteen members and guests joined in the Zoom meeting. We have become friends over the years and our conversations were a mix of perfume bottles, vanity items, antiquing, grandchildren, new homes, gardens and so much more.
We gave heartfelt congratulations to Teri Wirth, the new President of the IPBA. Kip White, the new Welcome Desk Chair, was also recognized as well as Barbara W. Miller, the new Convention Chair.

Presentation, pictures and updates on IPBA happenings were all on the agenda.
Our Show & Tell theme was music. Perfume bottles, compacts, dance cards were shown during our themed Show & Tell of music. President Teri Wirth kept us abreast of the latest happenings of the IPBA Board and Convention Chair, Barbara W. Miller updated us on an exciting list of presentations, tours and events happening at the 36th Annual IPBA Convention in Newport, April 25-28, 2024.
Flamingos on the Move

The Flamingos were literally and figuratively on the move to Jupiter, Florida for the February 19th, 2023 gathering. We moved past the Covid-19 restrictions on avoiding groups and we moved North and East as we left our homes to visit Roseann Smith’s home in Central Florida.
Roseann gave us a glimpse into her vast collection by showing several bottles and telling us the interesting story behind its acquisition. Roseann collects DeVilbiss, Czech, Lalique, Silver Overlay, Victorian laydowns, Art Glass, compacts, powder boxes and commercials. Plus, her home is filled with wonderful works of contemporary art.
The Show & Tell theme was Pink, Aqua or Black.
Fun with the Flamingos

On Sunday, August 28th, 2022, the Flamingos were flocking on Zoom for the first of our three annual gatherings. Several members from out of state joined in the fun!
At Play, our Show & tell theme, had bottles and vanity items playing golf and bocce; going birding, boating, swimming, sledding and skiing; chasing butterflies and playing with half dolls. Riding horses and sitting in the swan benches were also favorite carousel rides.
IPBA’s webmaster, Virginia Merrill, gave a detailed explanation of how to negotiate the website, including tips on finding specific items in the Virtual Museum. The amount of work Virginia does is highly impressive and greatly adds to our knowledge. The Virtual Museum is an extraordinary research tool for all collectors – whether you are looking for a date of one item or you are searching for in-depth knowledge on a company, designer or theme.
Flamingos and their Alluring Ancestors

The Flamingos flocked together to Enjoy! Learn! Share! the joys of perfume bottles and vanity items. New member Cynthia Jerry joined us. Cynthia is the creator of Tiv perfume and spoke to the Flamingos in February 2019 at Cocoa Beach.
For Show & Tell, we reached back into Ancestral items. Items a relative gifted us; which were created in/or depict our ancestral area – or an area we once lived, or feel a strong infinity to. Or items which just set our mind to imagining. Gifts from husbands, mothers, aunts and mother-in-laws were shown.
We also celebrated 2022: International Year of Glass with a short presentation on how glass perfume bottles are mysterious, ancient, whimsical, artistic, and elegant.
