Calendars may have been sparsely used for perfume and vanity items themselves, but they were very popular advertising tools, especially in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. If a lady or gentleman found it handy to keep a calendar in his pocket or in her purse, it meant that the advertising was kept around and referred to often. Often the calendar was on the back of a trade card that usually adveritsed one item. Other times it was in the form of a small booklet that could advertise a different item for each month, often with a picture that depicted a theme for the booklet. Details on the calendars often noted the Catholic saint days and holy days.
