Have you ever dreamt of traveling to India? India is much more than the home of the Taj Mahal, and Hindu gods with multiple pairs of arms. It was once conquered by the Mughals (Moors), and so features Moorish architecture and Muslim mosques as well as Hindu temples. It is a land where elephants were once used not only to transport royals, but also as warhorses that could swing a sword with its trunk to help protect its rider. And a land where the exotic peacock is the national bird and is much used in the decoration of their palaces. Allusions to India also abound in perfume and vanity items through references to its cities like Delhi and Jaipur. And do you know who bore the title “Empress of India”? (Answer: Queen Victoria).
