IPBA Nettie Rosenstein Company History

Nettie Rosenstein (1890 – March 13, 1980), was an American fashion designer, based in New York City between c.1913 and 1975. She was particularly renowned for her little black dresses and costume jewelry. Nettie Rosenstein discontinued the fashion side of her business in 1961. Her long term business partner and Coty Award winner, Sol L. Klein, continued to design and manufacture costume jewelry and accessories under the name Nettie Rosenstein Accessories until 1975. He retired in 1975, the same time as the Nettie Rosenstein brand closed. On March 13, 1980, after a long illness, Nettie Rosenstein died at the age of 90.

Currently Marilyn Miglin is the exclusive owner of Nettie Rosenstain’s “Odalisque” fragrance.

“Fleurs d’Elle”: is a rich lasting, fresh floral perfume., warm and provocative as woman. Destined to be as loved as her. Elusive fascinating its beauty. keeps unfolding as it is worn just as a woman’ s inner self is gradually revealed or as a flower slowly unfolds. petal by petal.

“Mlle. Ghe”: a new unforgettable fragrance created for the young at heart. For each drop is like a fantasy garden. Blended of Jasmine, musk and moonlight and perennial flowers. Very feminine; a bit sophisticated.

“Mr. Ghe”: zesty lemon lime fragrance for men.

In 1951, Nettie Rosenstein came out with a cute little perfume presentation for her perfumes “Odalisque” & “Tianne”. Little pocket containers are nestled in what looks like crushed ice in a real cocktail glass. Around the glass is a spotted fabric bow, alluding to Nettie’s profession as a dress designer. This presentation was called The Holiday Toast of Perfume.

In 1953, Nettie Rosenstein packaged her famous perfumes in the adorable “Tuck-Away” black velvet kit containing two heavenly scents, “Tianne” & “Odalisque”.

“Tianne” bottle: The square crystal bottle is fitted with an intaglio stopper of initials NR for Nettie Rosenstein. The base of the bottle is molded with “Nettie Rosenstein New York Bottle Made in Italy.” The use of Italian crystal was reserved solely for the parfum, other Rosenstein perfumes were housed in bottles manufactured at the TC Wheaton Glass Company of Millville, NJ.

The 1/2 oz Parfum bottle stands 1.75″ tall, and the 16 oz Parfum bottle stands 5.25″ tall (note this size was also used for the large factices)
